Here's the reasons why (image) SEO Search engine optimisationyou should pay attention to Search engine optimisation

Do a search on the web and you get to two lots of results. On the left side are the so called 'natural' or 'organic' listings and on the right the sponsored links, the pay per click (PPC) links

The organic results offer your business significant advantages

  1. More clicks on organic listings than PPC - research states a 60:40 advantage in terms of click through's to organic listings than PPC
  2. Less maintenance over time - PPC requires constant monitoring as opposed to SEO (search engine optimisation) - once you have found out what people are looking for you can tune your content to match
  3. Cost over time much better, R.O.I. - Although search engines are constantly tweaking the way they list sites and how results are shown the same basic rules apply - a relevant web site that matches the searched terms will appear higher than sites that don't. Once your site is optimised and is relevant it won't require daily attention, deliver regular traffic giving a higher R.O.I. (Return on Investment)
  4. Credibility - Visitor perception is that a site that appears higher in the search listing the more 'important' it is.

How do you get to to the top of the listings - use an alignment strategy

For search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN etc to be successful they must deliver results that are relevant to a visitors search terms. The best way to reach the top spot is to align with the search engines goals to deliver the most relevant results to the search. This is an 'alignment strategy.'

Having followed the syntax of the marketing checklist you will know what people are searching for, what your keywords need to be. Search engines rate how relevant your page is using a complicated algorithm that measure your pages relevancy. Relevancy includes factors like keyword density, keyword proximity, site structure, links, page ranking and page reputation.

The more aligned your site is, the more relevant, the better it will rank.

Warning - DO NOT SPAM THE SEARCH ENGINES

There is no quick way to get to the top of the search engines. If any one tells you there is consider this. How can anyone promise a top listing on a search engine they have no control over.

There are some less legitimate processes that can be used to improve your ranking in the short term BUT if your are seen by the search engines to be SPAMMING (deceiving) them they can and do remove your listing. And that's that. It happened to BMW Germany in February 2006 so don't spam.

The 'Kaizen approach' to optimisation provides the best results. Develop a search engine friendly site, utilise the knowledge learnt from following the marketing checklist and make changes based on that knowledge.

The benefit to your business is a high ranking site that is search engine friendly and stays at the top of the listings. Getting there can take time, stopping there is much less time consuming. The result is a much higher R.O.I. (Return on Investment) over time.

Kaizen (Japanese for "change for the better" or "improvement", the English translation is "continuous improvement", or "continual improvement.")
